Review by Janice Bailey

Amity’s current show is a funny, thought-provoking and ‘real’ commentary on how women are perceived from being a teenager to the 20s, 30s, 40s and beyond.

The idea for Amity’s current show came about as her 39th birthday was approaching. This led to thinking about ‘the big 40’. For most women the thought of being 40 means that youth is being left behind. This comes about as a result of the expectation our society places on girls and women.

Amity has an ability to connect with an audience from the moment she steps on stage – she is warm, funny with exceptional vocal ability. Jamie Burgess as her accompanist throughout most of the show also connects to the audience and is totally ‘in-sync’ with her personality and how she ‘works.’

A capable pianist herself, Amity sings her big ballad ‘anthem’ about the realisation of empowerment to her own accompaniment, as the culmination to a thoroughly enjoyable hour. Every mother should ensure that their daughters are familiar with the words and theme of this song. Being a woman is not about looking a certain way in order to fit in but being true to yourself and accepting yourself as you are at whatever stage of life.
