Written By: Michael Morpurgo (War Horse) and adapted for the stage by Simon Reade
Directed By: Rob Croser

Private Peaceful is a modern classic, it tells the story of a soldier called Thomas "Tommo" Peaceful, who signs up at 15 years old and serves in the trenches of WWI in France. During the course of one night, Tommo reflects on his short, but joyful past, growing up in rural Devon: his exciting first days at school; his father’s accident in a forest; his adventures with Molly, the love of his life; and the battles and injustices of war that brought him to the front line. Experience the trepidation of war through the first-hand account of a teenage soldier. This demanding and thought-provoking narrative illustrates the military codes of justice that stipulated cowardice as a crime punishable by death. Funny, heart-warming and poignant, Reade's production conveys what the text books and museums cannot - the intensely personal tragedy and pity of war.
