MISS JULIE by August Strindberg, translated by Michael Meyer
and
AFTER MISS JULIE by Patrick Marber by arrangement with Origin Theatrical on behalf of Samuel French Ltd

Directed By: Geoff Brittain

“When aristocrats pretend they're common people - they get common!”

August Strindberg's Swedish tragedy "Miss Julie" is about sex and class. It is 1888 and Jean, Julie and Christine are in the kitchen preparing for the Midsummer Eve celebrations. It will be an evening full of tumultuous events.

"After Miss Julie" is Patrick Marber's re-imagining of the same story, also about sex and class, also tumultuous, but this time set on 26th July 1945, with John, Julie and Christine preparing to celebrate the British Labour Party's landslide election victory.

Two versions of the same story, performed by the same cast, but in two highly contrasting styles, with the female actors swapping roles.

'Double bill Saturdays' will see both plays performed on the same day (commencing 6pm with interval in between).

Cast: Miss Julie - Rosie Williams (Miss Julie), Nick Fagan (Jean) and Cheryl Douglas (Christine)
Cast: After Miss Julie - Cheryl Douglas (Julie), Nick Fagan (John) and Rosie Williams (Christine)

“Like the original, Marber's ingenious update is at once horrible and hypnotic.” Independent (UK)
