DON'S PARTY Adelaide Repertory Theatre The Arts Theatre
Drama
Written By: David Williamson
Directed By: Megan Dansie
An iconic Australian comedy set amidst the backdrop of the widely anticipated Whitlam victory in the 1969 Federal Election.
This is a play about broken dreams – Whitlam’s election loss and those of the characters we meet at the Party.
Don Henderson and his wife Kath host an election night party where we meet a number of Labor supporters, and a few Liberals as well. The guests are in their 30s and are facing the reality that they have not achieved what they set out to do after leaving university. They had dreams and aspirations. Yet now they find themselves stuck in suburbia.
The characters are outrageous at times, but we all know people like them, or have behaved like them ourselves at a party!
