WORDS THEY MAKE WITH THEIR MOUTHS Iris Cinema Until 13 Mar 2010
Review by Jamie Wright
Writer/performer Tim Spencer, in the small space between the seats and the screen of the Iris Cinema, takes the audience into the minds of sixteen characters in this fascinating one-man show.
The dialogue is clever, natural-sounding and captivating and Spencer displays considerable skill atdifferentiating between most of them – although this is not always sufficient to maintain the distinctionand at times it is difficult to know which he's portraying; some get an explanatory segue, while othersdon't. This is, however, only a minor distraction and the majority of characters are distinguishable andthe arcs discernible.
An entertaining combination of clever, laugh-out-loud funny dialogue with interesting characters andsituations (reminiscent - to this reviewer at least - of the works of novelist Bret Easton Ellis) with goodcharacterisation by a talented performer.
