Tea Tree Players can be relied upon to create a great set, and “Twist” is no exception; it looks like a believable apartment and works well. Apart from a couple of minor glitches with the sound the tech went well. Miles Tredinnick’s script seems good but a few missed cues early on spoilt the flow.

The cast worked very hard in hot conditions a few minor slips can be forgiven and the audience was with them all the way. In the lead role of David Wood was Carsten Oostema, a not-very-likeable character that Carsten seems to struggle with. His wife Sarah Seaton, a famous actress, is played well by Veronica Howson managing to belittle her husband with minimal effort.

Richard Hobson was well suited as David’s brother, Robert Woods was as Heather Riley as Mrs Beck the ‘caretaker’ who looks and sounds like a charlady. Chanelle Le Rous is perfect for Hannah Van Lee – being from South Africa she has no problems with the accent. Every inch the Inspector, Nick Manning-Bennett has the cast and the audience convinced.

I was not impressed by the blocking, but was that the director, Kyla Booth, at fault – or the cast? Miles Tredinnick wrote “Up Pompeii” and this script may be as good, but it was hard to tell from this production. It certainly had more that one twist and the humour appealed to the audience, even in that heat!
