Review by Brian Godfrey

As the audience enter to see this production, they have their hand stamped as if entering a disco andare then guided across the stage to their seats by torch wielding usherettes. It is only when they areseated, do the audience realise that they have traversed their way past three prone bodies crumpled, dishevelled and seemingly asleep. Welcome to the world of today’s single woman.

Tammy Weller (who also wrote the piece) wakes and tells us that when she was little she wanted to bea fairy princess and marry Prince Charming when she grew up. But in the real world, the EnchantedForest that needs to be journeyed through to reach one’s quest nowadays is a forest of singles bars, discos, kebab shops and, even, good old Facebook.

Joined by Natalie Trent and Amy Ingram, Weller proceeds to take us through a series of quick satiricalmoments that encapsulate the life of a single person. Trent and Ingram play a variety of characters, with a highlight being their portrayal of a couple of model/actresses. Both show great skill as actressesand in comic characterisations.

Weller holds the piece together extremely well, never losing the audiences sympathy towards her. Hersis a mammoth task and she never falters.

Weller, Trent and Ingram are the perfect team, just needing to watch their projection from time to time.

Director Dan Evans always has great theatrical ideas that work and entertain. For this production, heuses three costume racks to portray everything from said costume racks to a ‘slut bus’ (don’t ask!).

Sound by Nathan Stoneham and lighting by Geoff Squires set this production off handsomely.

Although aimed mainly at females, males will probably enjoy this look at what dateless, but notnecessarily desperate, ladies get up to. Girls just wanna have fun - and do!
