Review by Maggie Wood

Sherie Rene Scott charmed a packed audience at the Dunstan Playhouse last night with her first foray into Adelaide’s Cabaret Festival.

With simple staging and minimal fuss the quality shone through. Ably and subtly backed by piano and bass, Scott took us through some of the more typical styles of the modern American songbook while imprinting them very firmly with her own panache.

She also delved into the classics of pop, delivering an astonishingly original and touching version of Paul McCartney’s ‘Another Day’ and a heartfelt refresh of the Buddy Holly’s hit ‘It Doesn’t Matter Anymore’ – where the New York in her voice slipped away to reveal her Southern roots.

All of this was sewn together with an humorous episodic tale of the crumbling, copycat persona of the Dalai Lama, Sherie, and Sir Paul McCartney. As a result, one hour and ten minutes skipped by unnoticed.

Ms Scott is only here for three shows – if you want to check out a true Broadway star you should get along.
