SOMEWHERE BETWEEN THE WORLDS Cabaret Fringe Festival Nexus Arts Until 10 Mar 2012
Review by Fran Edwards
This is music that travels across the different world influences and speaks to many different people. The band consisted of Stuart Haines – bouzouki, guitars, whistle and vocals; David Rose – cello; Ann Harrington – percussion and Maartin Ryder – double bass, flute, and cor anglais. And they were terrific.
Supported by the Zali Tribal Dancers this was visually and aurally delightful.
The graceful duo of bellydancers with their hypnotic movements – dancing with trailing material fans, a sword and symbolic gestures – were a pleasure to watch. However, the real star is the music. Evocative, sensual and passionate it mesmerizes.
If you are a fan of this acoustic-fused style of world music, do yourself a favour and make sure you get a ticket!
