Review by Jamie Wright

Amy Abler is one heck of a pianist; her considerable ivory-tickling talents contribute the lion’s share of the appeal of her show – but that’s not to say it’s her only skill, since she can sing, tells stories and jokes and even perform the occasional magic trick.

Her impressive range encompasses dozens of songs for piano – from Mozart to ragtime to Pachelbel to Jerry Lee Lewis – and plenty that were intended for other instruments, including some fun numbers on a piano accordion.

In between – and sometimes during – numbers, she regales the audience with stories of her adventures as a musical director and cruise-ship performer. While this is entertaining, at times her manner feels almost too scripted and distant.

This is only a minor setback, though; with her exuberance and those amazing piano skills, Amy Abler is more than capable of making an audience smile and tap their feet.

Great, light-hearted, high-energy cabaret.
