With modern technology making communication supposedly easier, the art of story telling seems to bedying out. With their children’s show “Myth Understandings”, Seattle’s Theater Simple is aiming to keepthat art very much alive.

Two scientists (Monique Kleinhans and Andrew Litzky) have developed the ‘I-Head’ for big computercorporation MindgoSoft; a machine that will help young people relate to every bit of knowledge knownto Mankind. However, it seems to be having troubles with the concept of fairy tales, so our two intrepidscientists must try and define what makes a good one.

Kleinhans and Litzky take the audience on a very entertaining, educational and fast-paced exploration ofsuch stories as ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, ‘Little Red Riding Hood’, Greek Mythology (where storytelling isbelieved to have originated), a beautiful, fairly unknown tale and a quick gallop through quite a fewothers (to the Gilbert and Sullivan tune of ‘Modern Major General’) .

Using everyday objects such as ironing boards, step ladders, boxes, buckets, pieces of material etc. anda screen (a theatrical replacement for the old bed sheet over the clothesline), the two actors present anhilarious hour of very physical theatre. There is non-stop action, plenty of laughs and interesting factsfor young and old.

Written by the two performers and their partners (Bob Blazek and Llysa Holland) and directed byHolland, this is fine family Fringe fare at a fairly reasonable price.
