LOVIN’ THAT TOUR Blackwood Players Inc Blackwood 21 Until 31 Jul 2010
Review by Tony Busch
Take a plot that was apparently successful in 2008 and change the setting from a cruise ship to a bus
tour and you have the substance of “Lovin’ That Tour”, the latest offering from Blackwood Players.
Writer/director Martin Barbary pulls out every cliche in the book to provide his numerous cast with an
assortment of exaggerated characters, situations and lines.
At just short of three hours, including interval and some rather awkward scene changes, the show can
do with a hefty prune to tighten it up and keep the action humming along.
There are consistent problems with sound and lighting cues and some of the microphones seem either
faulty or not mixed high enough for the 18 song and dance numbers, as the singers are often drowned
by the karaoke backing tape.
It’s clear that the enthusiastic cast enjoy this production, doubling, trebling and even quintupling
characters, and Blackwood Players does well to give everyone a chance to strut their stuff on stage.
They’re lucky to have so many young people willing to give it a go.
