Lyra la Belle established Hot Sauce Burlesque in 2017 with five students; since then the school has grown in popularity and now boasts 120 Hotties. This production showcases 19 of the current students.

Following Lyra’s belief that burlesque is for all – regardless of age, size or gender – the students are a mix of varying experiences and styles. Predominant are the feathers and glitter you would expect, but there are other more amusing acts too.

This style of performance is not for everyone, in fact the name alone will put some people off, however the show was basically fun. Some naughty poses, a little sensuous dancing and a fair amount of athleticism. The crowd was definitely enjoying the show, especially the many Hottie students in the crowd.

Lyra la Belle is relaxed and friendly as MC in her sparkling red gown, looking every inch the artist, she is. Flirting with the audience and encouraging the applause. The students were good to watch – though, unfortunately due to a lack of a program, I am unable to name them. The production was interesting and a little bit different, although I would have expected to see it in a cabaret venue rather than a proscenium arch theatre.
