Review by Fran Edwards

This show has all you would expect: sequined costumes, lots of energy, humour and fun. Hans entertains, he commits fully to his audience – even if the Fringe did squeeze him into a 6.30 timeslot, much to his chagrin!

He is right – his type of cabaret is better suited to a later timeslot, but he didn’t let that hold him back. As always he mercilessly flirts with and picks on audience members, and they love it. The show has lots of movement, costume changes (all sequined) and just about every Australian song you have ever heard.

Backed by a great band of musicians he refers to as the ‘Ungrateful Bastards’ and ably assisted by two very attractive ladies in skimpy (sequined) costumes, Hans sings his way through AC/DC, Yothu Yindi, The Divinyls, Cold Chisel, Mondo Rock, Kylie and many more, including ‘The Voice’ John Farnham. Not all were executed perfectly and some were accompanied by his trademark accordion, but the audience was with him every step of the way, enthusiastically joining in the very familiar tunes.

Hans gave us a bit of everything: high kicks, tap, schmoozing and wit. This fast-paced show is incredibly well prepared and gives the crowd what it expects and wants – fun.
