MICHAEL GRIFFITHS: GREATEST HITS Queen's Theatre Until 21 Feb 2021 Review by Janice Bailey Having been introduced to Michael Griffiths as Carlotta’s Music Director and Producer in this year’s Fringe (2021), I was so impressed with his charm, energy and musicality I took myself along to see his ‘Greatest Hits’ show, also at the Queen’s Theatre. Michael has become a well-known identity in the South Australian music world and beyond, after graduating from WAAPA with a Bachelor in Music Theatre and a Diploma in Music Composition. In 2016 he won the Helpmann Award for best cabaret performer and his list of awards and accolades continues to grow. Michael has exceptional talent – but it is the warmth of his effervescent personality and palpable love of performance that connects him to his audience. Even with the heat of the Queen’s Theatre he is not fazed and he does not falter as he presents a range of music from Cole Porter to Abba and Madonna. It became very clear that the impact he had on me in Carlotta’s show is not unusual as he has the rare ability to make everyone in the audience feel that he is communicating with them on a personal level. A fabulous show by a consummate performer. Rating: 5 stars (out of 5)
