JAMES MCLEAN: GOODIE TWO SHOES Adelaide Botanic Gardens - Noel Lothian Hall Until 18 Mar 2018
Review by Janice Bailey
James McLean is an Adelaide born, Flinders Drama Centre graduate and a very talented young man. Keeping an audience entertained for an hour playing six different characters and interspersing the storyline with songs is no mean feat.
Written as well as performed by McLean, “Goodie Two Shoes” is about Peter Hart, a very polite, well-spoken young man who applies for a job in a restaurant owned by Russian gangster, Victor Popov, and suddenly finds himself in the middle of gangland killing. McLean switches from character to character with ease, not only changing voices and accents but physicality, in very quick succession. He is also very funny.
The venue is quite intimate and McLean is in close proximity to the audience, but he in unfazed by this. Highly recommended as an hour well spent.
