This production draws on both the text of Shelley's novel, as well as the Greek story of Prometheus(which it parallels); scenes echoing the latter - the downfall of one who sought to rival the gods andcreate life - are repeated throughout the former.

Helmed by director Joe Luis, the cast features Paul Grabovac as the tortured Victor Frankenstein and (ina very different take from the lumbering monster of traditional depiction) Lily Newbury-Freeman as thecreature, with Alexa Taylor and Mikala Westall playing numerous other characters. Using a simple set aswell as clever and impactful sound, lighting and pyrotechnic effects, the result is dark and compelling asthe tragic story unfolds.

The pace does slow somewhat after a dynamic beginning and, as is the case with many shows featuringperformers playing numerous multiple characters without the benefit of distinct costume changes orother cues to their identity, it can be difficult to keep track of who's being portrayed by whom. But theseare only minor drawbacks; the overall result is an engaging theatrical adaptation of a classic story.
