Presented at the 2019 Adelaide Fringe Festival

Mama Alto is ‘a gender transcendent diva cabaret artiste, jazz singer and community activist.’ However, from the moment this talented artist steps onto the stage, gender becomes irrelevant. The entertainer is hypnotic and captivating. Mama Alto is one of the specially selected recipients of the highly competitive Adelaide Fringe Artist Fund, identifying as ‘a queer trans non-binary person of colour.’

Her performance is captivating and unique, the repertoire including vintage torch songs from iconic artists such as Billie Holiday. Believing that gender ‘is thrust upon us’, Mama Alto defies gender. She is articulate, intelligent, funny and utterly fascinating, using her talent to educate and advocate. ‘Maybe we all have a small part to play in making the world a better place.’

Accompanied by accomplished pianist William Elm, Mama Alto takes the audience on a fascinating and unique journey where gender becomes unimportant. Her vocal range is superb and her stage presence captivating.

It was unfortunate that on opening night there was only a small audience. This talented performer deserves more – hopefully the audience will build through word of mouth.
