Review by Janice Bailey

It doesn’t seem that long ago that it was almost a rite of passage for young Australians to head for the UK for their ‘gap’ year. That seems to have gone out of fashion to be replaced by the trip to Europe to ‘find oneself’, only to discover that what you were looking for was there all the time – you just had to look for it inside yourself.

“Europe Won’t Fix” you is a comedy about discovering that you don’t have to go around the world to discover that who you really are is with you wherever you happen to be. This group of young women have devised a comedic look at the overseas trip as an anecdote to all that a young woman is looking for – only to find that it is a flawed dream.

There is nothing subtle about how the story is told – much could be described as confrontational but it generally speaks the language of today’s youth. There are some good performances and some interesting viewpoints expressed by the ‘characters’.

Its aim is to express the point that if you can’t find what you’re looking for in your own ‘backyard’ it’s probably not going to be hiding somewhere in Europe. I didn’t leave feeling inspired or uplifted but the youthful audience found it amusing and entertaining.
