Adelaide Cabaret Festival

Review by Jamie Wright

As a smiling Daniel Boys walks on stage, charm and warmth of personality just radiates from him. But this young man is not just a pretty face with a boyish grin; he's a genuine talent, and in the next hour he and his tight four-piece ensemble treat the audience to some truly engaging cabaret.

It's a very intimate show, and between songs we're given a glimpse at the person underneath – his personal life, his adventures in the industry, and his love of music and performing. And it's this that turns a good show into a great one; singing ability is a given at a festival of this standard, but it doesn't always come with the ability to engage an audience.

This, combined with his excellent sense of performance – the theatre aspects of his musical theatre background play a big part – makes for a funny, touching and genuinely enjoyable cabaret experience.
