FEAR OF A BROWN PLANET RETURNS Tuxedo Cat Until 14 Mar 2010
Review by Jamie Wright
Two young standup comedians express what living ‘brown’ in Australia is like.
Taking one-half of the set each, Nazeem Hussain (up first) and Aamer Rahman tell jokes and anecdotes.
They make great use of some clever video – featuring some particularly eye-watering scenes from theoriginal Star Trek tv series – as well as the music of Public Enemy, references to Bollywood, Star Warsand other media both to poke fun and have a serious dig at white attitudes to other cultures, and thesad fact that racism is alive and well in contemporary Australia.
The duo combine laugh-out-loud funny with an undertone of justifiable concern for how our society isperceived from both within and without and the result is both highly amusing and eye-opening.
