Tea Tree Players were formed in 1976, and since that time have been presenting plays in the original Council building situated at Tilley Recreation Park at Surrey Downs.
Originally the usage was on a shared basis with several other groups, which was to say the least, inconvenient. A exclusive lease was negotiated with Tea Tree gully Council in 1986, and since that time a comfortable (120) raked seating theatre has been developed, with all of the modern features included in more recent times. In addition, the original floor area has been doubled, with the provision of a lounge, toilets and dressing rooms.
With a membership of 40-50, Tea Tree Players present five major productions annually, with an emphasis on comedy or the not too serious. The Youth Group (13-18yrs) and the Junior Group (7-12yrs) combine to provide a mid-year presentation, while all of the members are involved in the annual traditional Pantomime in November.
As sole users of an excellent facility, time is available for a well developed set with attention to detail for each production, a facet that is readily appreciated by the capacity audience numbers that attend every performance, and the onstage standard and the low cost ticket prices are also factors that keep the booking office busy.
