MAINSTREET THEATRE COMPANY
PO Box 416
MT GAMBIER SA 5290
David Ryding, Artistic Director
In 1984 Mainstreet Theatre began as a small collective in Millicent, in the South East of South Australia. Since then Mainstreet has created and developed theatre about and for Regional Australia and performed in trains, vineyards, lighthouses, abattoirs, mills, cattle yards, shearing sheds, football fields and theatre across Australia.
Mainstreet has seen its role evolve from its small beginnings, through an expansion into community activities to its present role as a fully funded professional theatre company, commissioning and developing New Australia theatre. Highlights include the Mainstreet commissioned plays, Salt Creek Murders (Wal Cherry Award winner), Verity Laughton's The Lightkeeper and Richard Tullochs Talking to Grandma while the world goes by (AWGIE award winners), PP Cranneys Mixed Kill (AWGIE award nominee) and Owen Loves No Shame
Now based in Mount Gambier, Mainstreet is proud to be the Limestone Coast theatre company as it continues its mission of developing theatre that reflects Regional Australia.
